If you’re planning a wedding or even just planning on attending one, you’re sure to be thinking about many things. Your feet may not be one of them, but even small problems like blisters can take the edge off the enjoyment. Here are some tips to keep your feet happy and healthy this wedding season.

Start preparing early

You wouldn’t leave the preparations for the wedding ceremony or the reception until the last moment, so don’t do this to your feet, either. The time to start thinking about your wedding footcare is around three months before the wedding day.

  • Make an appointment with your podiatrist, to check for any underlying or developing foot problems you may not have noticed.
  • Get your feet feeling smooth and soft with a daily moisturizing routine. Foot creams containing 10% urea make good choices.

Show your toenails some love

Many people spend so much time thinking about the appearance of their feet that they overlook the importance of keeping their toenails tidy and trimmed. In many styles of wedding shoes, your nails will be highly visible, so make sure they get a little pampering, too.

  • About one month before the wedding, decide on the color of nail polish you’ll wear. Make sure it’s a type that’s kind to your nails.
  • Use a strengthening oil to help avoid chips, hangnails and other unsightly problems. This is a great time for that pedicure!

Stay comfortable on the big day itself

It’s easy to forget, but you’re likely to be on your feet for a long time on the day of the wedding – perhaps for as long as eight hours. That’s not going to be a pleasant experience if your shoes aren’t comfortable, and a wedding should be memorable for all the right reasons.

  • Don’t stay in your high-heeled shoes all day. Sure, go all-out for the actual ceremony, but bring a lower-heeled pair for quieter times.
  • Your feet will expand during the day – especially if you’re doing a lot of dancing! So don’t try to force your feet into too-tight shoes.
